SL Sci-Fi Convention 2009

SL Sci-fi Convention 2009`Rod' Roddenberry

From Friday, July 31 through August 2, 2009, IFT, many of its allies and multiple other science fiction groups gathered on SecondLife for the SL Sci-Fi Convention 2009. The convention featured “Rod” Roddenberry and a number of activities and events. This was IFT’s first large scale, public event on SecondLife and while there was a few issues, the convention was a success. Everyone pulled together and we helped contribute to the $274,644 USD total for the American Cancer Society.

On Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 3 to 5 p.m. PT, the son of Gene Roddenberry, “Rod”, made a public appearance on SecondLife on behalf of IFT. The event was in a question and answer town hall format. Audience participants asked questions about Rod’s parents, the status of the Roddenberry company today, any current and future production plans and what Rod does in his spare time. Tickets sold for $100L ($0.75 USD) and all of the proceeds went to benefit the American Cancer Society.
