Zachary Quinto WILL play Spock in Star Trek Sequel

Trekkies were up in arms this week when Star Trek actor Zachary Quinto announced he was not returning to the role of Spock in the Star Trek sequel. In an interview with Wired, the actor said:

“I’m stepping away from Star Trek for at least two years – no movies, no conventions, no anything for a while.”

Oh dear!

Alas, the truth came out and Quinto vehmently denied he’d meant to say such things (probably because he was threatened with the Vulcan death grip by JJ Abrams). The Heroes star said the comment was taken out of context, I was high at the time, it wasn’t printed properly, I didn’t say it at all (delete where applicable). Anyway, he did some serious backtracking, commenting via his own website:

“Obviously I will be a part of any upcoming films… reprising my role as Spock. What I meant was that in the meantime I won’t be making any public appearances related to the franchise – or doing any more auxiliary projects pertaining to the Trek universe. I will be focusing my efforts on other projects and preparing to shoot the next film – which will be released in June of 2012… two years from now. Hence the no Trek for two years remark. Worry not Trekkers. It was a misunderstanding of context.”

Thanks for clearing that up, Zachary! And remember, one day those “conventions” might be your only source of income! Pretty sure you won’t be so fussy then.
